Goodwill Delegation Visit to China

At the Invitation of United Nations Association of China (UNA of China) a delegation led by the President of the United Nations Association of Sri Lanka (UNASL) Prof. Lakshman Marasinghe visited China on December 08th to 13th, 2014. Mr. Dharmadasa Vitharana – Senior Assistant Secretary, Mr. M. M. M. Rushanudeen – Assistant Secretary, Two members of the National Executive Committee Mr. E. Karunaratne and Mr. Sampath Priyankara comprised the other members of the delegation.

The main purpose of UNA of China in extending this invitation was to disseminate information about UN, promote comprehension and popularization of UN endeavors and activities, help realize the purposes of the UN Charter and enhance the natural understanding, friendship and cooperation among people of all nations. This invitation is a gesture of unity, strong emotional connection and goodwill with UNA of China.

The delegation received a very warm welcome and enjoyed excellent hospitality in 03 provinces they visited. The arrangements were of a very of high standard in every place they visited. The delegation had bilateral talks with Hon. Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, the President of UNA of China, the Vice President and Director General of UNA China and other senior officials of UNA China in Beijing.

The delegation visited Asian and African Department of Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs in Sichuan Provincial People’s Government and Institute of South Asian Studies. SICHUAN University as arranged Prof. Lakshman Marasinghe gave a lecture on Law relating to International Trade to Students of the University. The delegation had the honour of paying a curtsey call on the Hon. Governor of Sichuan Province

The delegation also visited Yunnan Province. During the meetings with UNA of China counter parts, authorities of Yunnan Provinces and Heads of Institutes exchanged views with regard to activities of UNA Sri Lanka, cooperation between China and Sri Lanka. UNASL and UNA of China both agreed that this visit had strengthened the friendship between the two Associations.
